D&T in Year 9
This is a year of natural progression that builds on the work of Years 7 & 8 and provides students with a sound foundation for future work on the GCSE courses offered in Years 10 & 11. Students are taught in four 55 minute periods per two week cycle. Set sizes vary between 12 and 18, with three quaters of the year group opting to take Design & Technology.
Two independent projects are undertaken, which combined cover the key aspects of designing, making and evaluation. These include:
•Research and analysis
•Graphical presentation
•Computer aided design and manufacture
•Materials classification
•Manufacturing processes
•Electronic and mechanical principles
•Time management
•Risk assessment
•Quality assurance
•Product testing
•Self evaluation
Tracking marks are awarded based on an average of all marks given to that point for classwork and homework. Homework is set as required, but not more frequently than once per cycle, with a week available in which to complete work.
